El Paso Mourns Today

Today El Paso lost its biggest hero. Don Haskins, famed coach of the Texas Western Miners(UTEP) passed away today at the age of 78.
Neil and I spent some of our first days together watching Coach Haskins lead the Miners to their 1966 National Championship. Those were truly glory days in El Paso basketball. Thanks Coach for the fun, it made for a heck of a movie.
You will be missed Coach!!

Awww. I never followed that much football (not since I was a kid) but a lot of people I grew up with are REALLY into Football (including College) and I heard about it from them. So sad.

The greatest thing about Coach Haskins was his humility. He never sought the spotlight, either for the great things he did as a basketball coach or for the great things he did to help his fellow El Pasoans. This world could use more people who do the right thing for no other reason than because it's the right thing to do.

We'll miss you Coach.
